Carbide burrs are the polishers’ equivalent of the end mill. Carbide burrs are used in the benching phase. Carbide burrs come in various shapes and are 1-1/2″ to 3″ long and have 1/4″, 1/8″, and 3/32″ shanks. They are used in die and pencil grinders. Carbide burrs are used when large amounts of steel have to be removed to form a radius. Because they cut so quickly, caution should always be observed to prevent the removal of too much stock.
