Emery is a cloth with abrasive materials glued to one side, and is used in the final finishing phase. Emery comes in 1″ and 2″ widths on rolls of varying lengths. Grits range from 60 to 600. Emery is pushed by hand or by wrapping it over a stick. When wrapped over a stick, a rubber pad should be glued to the contact surface. Emery should be used with a lubricant to prevent loading and produce a finer finish. Emery is used to smooth large surfaces and refine a stone finish prior to diamond finishing.
