Molybdenum is a hard, gray, metallic element used to toughen steel alloys and to soften tungsten alloys. Molybdenum is also used in fertilizers, dyes, enamels and reagents.
Effects of Molybdenum in steel alloys
Molybdenum is primarily a promoter of hardness in mold steels. It also improves the heat treatment process, increases tensile strength, toughness, and helps with dimensional stability.
- (+) Increases hardening.
- (+) Increases toughness.
- (+) Increases shock resistance.
