Milling is the process of machining a piece of metal by bringing it into contact with a hardened rotating cutter usually with several cutting edges. It is a productive metal removing process used to produce very accurate parts of a variety of shapes and sizes. Milling is done on a variety of milling machines for many parts of mold/cavity/base construction. Shown here is a computer numerical control (CNC) vertical mill, cutting a desired shape in foam.
