This section will discuss the control units used on an injection molding machine. These are the control panel and the computer. The differences between a microprocessor controlled machine and an older relay-logic controlled machine will also be presented. On microprocessor controlled machines, a computer is used to make adjustments to the process whereas on older relay logic machines, manual limit switches, valves and timers are used to make adjustments. These are the units that control all of the movements on an injection molding machine. The control units tell each injection molding machine component what to do. By gaining an understanding of these units, the movements of the press will be fully understood.
