Fine diamond finishing is done in one to three steps. The number is determined by the final finish required. Fine diamonding techniques are the same as for rough diamonding. Start the fine diamond finishing with #6 grade diamond compound. If required, the second step is done with #3 grade diamond compound. For an optical quality finish, a third step is done using #1 grade diamond. Every time the grade of diamond compound is changed, it is critical that all surfaces are free from the previous compound.
