How To Analyze A Mold Finishing Project

How to Analyze Mold Finishing Project

By following these steps any polisher will be able to attain the best finish in the least amount of time.

  1. Visually inspect the piece to be polished. Look for problem areas and surfaces that need blending. One common planning technique is to begin with the final required finish in mind and to think through the finishing steps backwards to the current state of the mold ensuring a proper start.
  2. All bench work should be done first. Install all radii and do any filing, discing, and grinding.
  3. Once the bench work is done stoning begins. Using manufactured stones, remove cutter marks and refine molding surfaces.
  4. If a mirror finish is required start diamonding now. Move to finer compounds until the required finish is achieved.
