Testing Equipment For Rockwell Hardness Scales

Rockwell Hardness Scale

The Rockwell hardness tester indicates a hardness value by measuring the depth a penetrator advances into a specimen under fixed conditions. A 1/16 or 1/8 hard steel ball penetrator and a 120 degree diamond (Brale) penetrator are used depending upon the application. The test is made by applying two loads to a specimen and measuring the depth of penetration between the two loads. A dial or digital read out indicates the depth in a number value related to the Rockwell test used.
